Paul Hemesath is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and Counsel to the Digital Currency Initiative at the Department of Justice. He is currently cybersecurity counsel at Coinbase. Paul will discuss how criminals use cryptocurrency – a form of instant and irreversible asset transfer – in fraud schemes and what can be done about it. Topics will include: how cryptocurrency works, how it is used both legitimately and illicitly, and how it can be traced using data from publicly available blockchain records.
